Martin Murray (35-4-1, 16 KOs) narrowly edged perennial also ran Gabriel Rosado on Saturday in Liverpool. The fight wasn’t terrible, but it did not live up to its billed potential as a war. After the fight Gabriel Rosado (23-11, 13 KOs) was absolutely outraged by the scorecards and the two fighters had to be separated.

For a lot of the bout Martin Murray was able to used him somewhat limited boxing skills to neutralize the also limited Gabriel Rosado, but Rosado was able to win a couple rounds early behind his pressure. The always game Philly fighter rallied hard in the last two rounds and won them big, but in the end he predictably was unable to get the nod away from home in a close fight. I didn’t think he deserved it either as I scored it 115-113 for Murray, but it was close and a draw or 115-113 for Rosado would be defensible. What was not defensible was the 119-109 card that came back from a Polish judge.

That card in particular seemed to really enrage Rosado who first yelled about it to the Sky commentary team and then for unclear reasons lunged at Murray. They were separated and cooler heads prevailed, but Rosado definitely became unhinged there for a moment. Murray sounded like a bit of a fool talking about how he absolutely schooled Rosado in the post fight interview, but I don’t blame him for being heated over Rosado’s antics. Neither man looks to have a super bright future at this point, but I suspect we have not seen the last of them at world level just yet due to their name value.

In the night’s co-feature Rocky Fielding (24-1, 13 KOs) won the British super middleweight belt on his second try with a narrow split decision win over John Ryder (24-4, 13 KOs). Fielding previously lost his shot to hot prospect Callum Smith by first round stoppage, but Smith is looking above the British level and vacated the title accordingly.
