Floyd Mayweather protegee Gervonta “Tank” Davis successfully defended his IBF junior lightweight title on the road via third round technical knockout over England’s Liam Walsh. This was the first defense for the twenty two year old titlist.

Once he got going, Tank Davis (18-0, 17 KOs) was just physically too much for the less athletic Liam Walsh (21-1, 14 KOs).

The first two rounds were competitive, but a little slow. Both fighters spent large portions of the opening two stanzas waiting for the other to make the first move. Walsh was able to land a little here and there, but whenever Davis chose to fire his hand speed was clearly bothering his English challenger.

In the third Davis’s power started bother Walsh too. Tank hurt him badly with several lefts and one big right before sending Liam to the canvas. The challenger was trying to clinch through the attack, but the young champion denied him and fought through it. When Walsh arose, two more big shots caused the referee to jump in before he could go down again.

The BT Sport commentary team complained about the stoppage a bit, but I didn’t have a problem with it.

As the chief support of the BT Sport broadcast, Liam’s brother Ryan Walsh (22-2-1, 11 KOs) successfully defended his British featherweight title with an eleventh round stoppage of Marco McCullough (17-4, 10 KOs).
