Golden Boy

Undefeated Golden Boy super bantamweight Randy Caballero will be headlining on ESPN2 at the end of next month. His opponent will be Colombian Oscar Negrete who will also bring a perfect record to the ring.

As you might remember, Randy Caballero (24-0, 14 KOs) briefly held a bantamweight title in 2014. A foot injury and a canceled fight due to Caballero dramatically missing weight saw to nearly a year and a half out of the ring after winning the belt, however. Accordingly, he was stripped.

Up at super bantamweight, Caballero successfully made weight and won a regional belt in March on the undercard of Golden Boy’s debut on ESPN2. That fight against Jesus Ruiz was tougher than expected, but Caballero prevailed on close cards.

Oscar Negrete (16-0, 6 KOs) is not as well known. He has come up on Golden Boy’s LA Fight Club series on Estrella TV in Los Angeles, a series that is not widely covered or viewed. Despite his Colombian birth, all but his first three fights have been in the United States. He will be viewed as a very large underdog here.

21 year old junior lightweight prospect Lamont Roach (13-0, 5 KOs) fights in the co-feature. No opponent for the Maryland fighter has been named yet. Keandre Gibson (16-1-1, 7 KOs) also returns against Dennis Dauti (14-2, 7 KOs). This will be Gibson’s first fight back since losing his undefeated mark to Antonio Orozco.
