"Look at me, guys, I fight too..."

In news that will surely devastate the no one that thought it was the one true pairing in the fight game, Miguel Cotto is reportedly leaving Roc Nation Sports. The Puerto Rican star will now be working with Golden Boy for his likely late summer fight with Yoshihiro Kamegai.

Could you choose between these faces?

Roc Nation Sports is now down to only Andre Ward in terms of marketable fighters. They also still promote Guillermo Rigondeux, if that is even still a possible thing to do at this point. Their contract with Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) was for three fights, but with only two done the contract will be bought out for this to happen.

The rumored dispute here is that Miguel Cotto was insisting on a ten million dollar minimum purse for the Kamegai fight. Roc Nation felt that that was ridiculous and did not want to lose a lot of money on the event. Cotto wouldn’t budge, so the split is happening.

There seems to be little television interest for the fight if it is not setting up something larger for Cotto’s next contest, so it does seem like an especially high number. Presumably, if that was really the issue, either Cotto came to his senses on the number and reached a compromise with Golden Boy or Golden Boy is willing to take a loss here to have rights on Cotto going forward.

No actual details on the Golden Boy deal have been leaked or released as of yet.
