Longtime German world titlist Marco Huck is the now the fifth official entrant of the eight man World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament. With the bracket announcement set for less than two weeks from now on July 8th, George Groves still remains the only official super middleweight in that field.

Marco Huck (40-4-1, 27 KOs) held the WBO cruiserweight title from August of 2009 to August of 2015, for six years and a cruiserweight record tying thirteen title defenses. He lost his belt in a come from behind upset to Polish contender Krzysztof Glowacki who, according to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, is also set to join the field. Huck most recently was soundly defeated by WBC cruiserweight titlist and confirmed WBSS entrant Mairis Briedis. The thought on Huck is that he is past his prime now, but 32 would be notably young for that to be the case as high in weight as cruiserweight.

As partially mentioned above, according to ESPN’s Dan Rafael Poland’s Krzysztof Glowacki (27-1, 17 KOs) and Okelsandr Usyk (12-0, 10 KOs) of Ukraine are set to join as well. Usyk is the current WBO titlist and a former Olympic gold medalist. He already defeated Glowacki to win the belt and is the consensus top fighter in the division. Usyk’s addition would mean everything to the tournament.

Already previously confirmed are IBF titlist Murat Gassiev (24-0, 17 KOs), WBC titlist Mairis Briedis (22-0, 18 KOs), former long reigning titlist Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (53-3-1, 37 KOs), and young top contender Yunier Dorticos (21-0, 20 KOs). If Usyk and Glowacki join, that would leave one slot available. A few names are being thrown around, but the most credible rumor thus far is that the final entrant would be Dmitry Kudryashov (21-1, 21 KOs), a somewhat limited but absolutely monstrous Russian puncher.

Pretty much regardless of who does fill the final spot, this is an incredible field at cruiserweight. Hopefully the super middleweight tournament can at least come close in terms of quality entrants.
