Victor Ortiz, happy!

Two separate July PBC on FS1 cards have been announced. First, July 18th, former top PBC featherweight prospect Miguel Flores returns from his first loss to face former title challenger Chris Avalos on a traditional Toe-to-Toe Tuesday broadcast. Sunday, July 30th brings a much bigger card as former world champion and major attraction Victor Ortiz returns with a get-well fight against Saul Corral. Justin DeLoach returns as the co-feature as well.

Miguel Flores (21-1, 9 KOs) had looked like a really impressive prospect at times through his unbeaten run, but Dat Nguyen put a halt to all the hype with a knockout win over Flores in February. Chris Avalos (26-5, 19 KOs), once a top prospect himself, has been knocked out in three of his last four fights. Those contests came against top competition, however, in the former of current titlists Carl Frampton and Oscar Valdez as well as against top Filipino prospect Mark Magsayo. Avalos is a reasonable comeback fight for Flores and their styles should make for an entertaining contest.

Undefeated Egyptian light heavyweight Ahmed Elbiali (15-0, 12 KOs) meets Leon Hall (8-2. 7 KOs) in the co-feature.

Victor Ortiz (31-6-2 24 KOs) last fought in April of 2016 in a stoppage rematch loss against Andre Berto. He has spent the last eight years being one of the biggest enigmas in the sport ever since his upset knockout loss to a then little known Marcos Maidana. You never know what you are going to get from Ortiz. For all his flaws, this makes him must watch TV. Saul Corral (24-9, 15 KOs) has lost wide to every above average fighter he has fought. Ortiz should knock him out in a couple rounds, but with Victor Ortiz you never really know.

This card also features a quality supporting bout pitting junior middleweight prospect Justin DeLoach (17-1, 9 KOs) against former title challenger Fernando Guerrero (28-4, 22 KOs). DeLoach was not a huge amateur and took a knockout loss early in his career. Accordingly, it has taken the boxing public a little while to come around to him as a prospect. For my money, the 23 year old Augusta, Georgia product is one of the best in the sport. Fernando Guerrero is talented enough to give him a good test on the right night.

US Olympian Karlos Baldera (1-0, 1 KO) will also take his second pro fight on this card. This is a big one by Fox Sports 1 standards.
