Near consensus top cruiserweight and WBO titlist Oleksandr Usyk has joined the the cruiserweight bracket of the World Boxing Super Series officially. This is amazing news that just further cements the cruiserweight bracket as the best series of fights the division has produced since it featured Evander Holyfield.

I’ve written about this plenty, but I will say again that the field at cruiserweight is just incredible. It looks like the only top cruiserweight that will not be represented in the field is Russia’s WBA titlist Denis Lebedev. Super middleweight will not come out anywhere near this good in all likelihood, but the economics of the divisions are different and cruiserweight is just perfect for it.

The cruiserweight field now includes the following confirmed participants: WBO titlist Okelsandr Usyk (12-0, 10 KOs), IBF titlist Murat Gassiev (24-0, 17 KOs), WBC titlist Mairis Briedis (22-0, 18 KOs), former long reigning titlists Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (53-3-1, 37 KOs) and Marco Huck (40-4-1, 27 KOs), as well as young top Cuban contender Yunier Dorticos (21-0, 20 KOs).  Recent former world titleholder Krzysztof Glowacki (27-1, 17 KOs) and power punching Dmitry Kudryashov (21-1, 21 KOs) are rumored to round out the field in the next week or so.
