4.4 million seems to be your Mayweather/McGregor PPV buys number

The August 26th crossover fight between MMA superstar Conor McGregor and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr looks like it is going to go down as the second most purchased pay per view in combat sports history. While it isn’t hitting five million like UFC president Dana White was suggesting it might, 4.4 million makes it wildly successful.

Of course, the number one selling pay per view of all time remains Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao’s long time hyped fight in May of 2015. While that fight managed to mostly disappoint, it also was bought 4.6 million times. That fight shattered the previous record of 2.4 million that Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather had set in 2007. The highest selling UFC PPV to date was Conor McGregor’s rematch with Nate Diaz last August which sold 1.65 million buys.

Floyd Mayweather was guaranteed $100 million for this fight while Conor McGregor was guaranteed $30 million. Those numbers will doubtlessly climb now that the sales numbers are in.
