Tony Bellew and David Haye II is official for December 17th

Tony Bellew, David Haye, Boxing

It is time to officially add another big fight to the British boxing calendar. Matchroom Boxing announced today that Tony Bellew will be granting David Haye his rematch following Bellew’s upset March win over the top British heavyweight, a win that was heavily aided by an achilles injury suffered by the Hayemaker in the middle of the fight.

It was that kind of night for David Haye

In their March fight, David Haye (28-3, 26 KOs) ruptured his achilles tendon in the sixth round and was basically a sitting duck from there on for shots from cruiserweight titleholder Tony Bellew (29-2-1, 19 KOs). At times barely even able to support his own weight, Bellew eventually wore down and finished off the bigger man in the eleventh round. This was an upset, but an understandable one given the circumstances. Haye will be returning pretty quickly from what seemed like a serious injury here all things considered.

The fight was sold as a grudge match and a success commercially in the United Kingdom. The rematch will likely perform just as well, but it is a busy end of the year for UK pay per view cards and they may very well cannibalize one another to some extent. It should also be noted that this card is taking place on a Sunday.
