Jessie Magdaleno is injured, November 11th defense is off

Jessie Magdaleno, Boxing

Unfortunately, WBO super bantamweight titleholder Jessie Magdaleno has injured his wrist. His November 11th, Top Rank on ESPN title defense against Cesar Juarez has been canceled for the time being. The show will still go on, however, as it was a strong tripleheader to begin with and the two other planned bouts can carry the card.

Jessie Magdaleno (25-0, 18 KOs) was in for a pretty interesting test against Cesar Juarez (20-5, 15 KOs) prior to the injury. While he was rightfully a big favorite, Juarez brings this never say die aggression late in the fight that has caused contenders like Nonito Donaire real issues in the past. Top Rank is looking to reschedule this one for early next year.

Local draw and former US Olympian Jose Carlos Ramirez (20-0, 15 KOs) will have his very interesting bout with fellow unbeaten emerging junior welterweight contender Mike Reed (23-0, 12 KOs) elevated to main event status now. Ramirez was always going to be the main event for the Fresno crowd anyway. Plus, this is the best matched bout on the card. Powerful Russian contender Artur Beterbiev (11-0, 11 KOs) will still meet Germany’s Enrico Koelling (23-1, 6 KOs) for the Andre Ward vacated IBF light heavyweight title in the co-main event.

This is still a good show without its original main event.
