Oscar De La Hoya, former top boxing draw turned promoter, has been repeatedly calling out MMA superstar Conor McGregor for a fight over the past few days. There is no doubt in my mind that this would sell and it could appear as a tantalizingly winnable boxing match to the Irish superstar as well. De La Hoya claims he has even been training.

I could sit here and briefly go over their respective careers like I normally do in an article like this highlighting a potential fight, but I am not going to. Oscar De La Hoya is 44 and nearly a decade removed from his last bout. Conor McGregor has one boxing match to his name. This is all sorts of stupid.
Yet, I am going to admit something. I love it. I know I am not supposed to, but I do. I like MMA a lot, but due to this site I do not have the time to seriously follow it like I used to. Therefore McGregor never defending his UFC belts is a non-factor to me. Oscar is retired and him taking a fight like this would have no impact on boxing as a sport. Sure, I’d rather people pay attention to a super fight that is actually within the sport, but I can get behind fun freak show fights when they pop up. These kind of nonsense fights are more of an MMA tradition, but why can’t it bleed into boxing?
The build up would be fun and I honestly don’t know who’d win. Screw it. I am all in on this one. Take my money, Golden Boy. Unfortunately, I don’t think the UFC would let this happen though. Then again, I thought that last time too. We’ll see.
I’m with you. Shouldn’t be – but it could be great fight. All over for McGregor in boxing if he loses and Golden Boy could KO him
