As should be expected, a weekend in which Saturday falls on December 23rd is entirely devoid of top level fight cards in the sport of boxing. If you’re a desperate pugilism addict, I’ll list below a few guys of minor note with some fights this week. For everyone else, Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, or whatever you will be celebrating.
This won’t follow the normal format because none of this will be televised in America or, to my knowledge, in Great Britain. Again, these are fights that will make Under the Radar Fight Results and not stuff I’d normally highlight in the schedule, but it is what we have to work with. Thanks, Santa.
On Tuesday, December 19th, Japanese junior welterweight prospect Hiroki Okada (16-0, 11 KOs) is taking a step up against Filipino fringe contender Jason Pagara (40-2-1, 25 KOs) for a minor WBO title. That’s a good test for Okada.
Top 25 cruiserweight Maksim Vlasov (40-2, 23 KOs) has a fight on Thursday the 21st against Vikapita Meroro (28-6, 14 KOs) of Namibia. That won’t be competitive, but it is a boxing match. Former highly touted prospect Umar Salamov (19-1, 14 KOs) is taking his first fight back from being upset by talented Australian Olympian Damien Hooper this summer. Salamov will meet Artem Redko (21-9-3, 12 KOs). I have no idea who Redko is, but he is 1-7-2 in his last ten so that’s awesome.
Friday has some action in Europe and is the best (least terrible?) day of the week. Zakaria Attou (25-6-2, 7 KOs) defends his Euro welterweight belt against Italy’s Orlando Fiordigiglio (27-1, 12 KOs) at home in France. Former heavyweight sort of contender Alexander Dimitrenko (40-3, 26 KOs) headlines a card in Germany against Adnan Redzovic (18-2, 6 KOs) of Bosnia too.
Also on the same day, 48 year old Giacobbe Fragomeni (35-5-2, 14 KOs) fights an eight rounder against a dude with a losing record that I am not going to bother typing out. Fragomeni had a cruiserweight title a decade ago, so that’s a thing.
Saturday brings nothing whatsoever while Sunday has recent Japanese world title challenger Hiroshige Osawa (32-4-4, 19 KOs) listed as in action, but we are less than a week out on that and his opponent is still TBA.
There you go. That’s the best I can do with this week. Enjoy your holidays and thanks for reading.
