Floyd Mayweather Jr claims he will begin training MMA soon

So much money

I will hold to my position that Floyd Mayweather Jr will never step into the UFC’s octagon until the day he actually does it, but the hype continues. Floyd is now on record himself saying that he will begin training in the combat sport soon.

Another day, another Floyd Mayweather Jr to MMA rumor. This time Floyd is spreading it all by himself. In talking to TMZ, Mayweather has gone record to say that he will begin training soon. Here is the actual quote:

“I’ma start soon. We been texting back and forth, we talked a couple times. So we gonna start working out real, real soon.”

The person Mayweather says he has been texting here is UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. Woodley has been publicly claiming he will be trying Floyd going forward. The 41 year old former king of boxing also notes that it will probably take “6-8 months” to train properly in the new sport. Of course, he also thinks his wrestling game is already a “7 out of 10,” so there is that delusion to contend with as well.

Look, do I think it is impossible that Mayweather could chase a potential giant payday with Dana White and company? No, of course not. Do I think it is likely though? No, of course not. Floyd Mayweather Jr is 41 years old and always took a sort of risk averse approach to his boxing career. He isn’t about to jump into a fight where he will almost certainly be roughed up pretty badly at this point of his career.

I could be wrong though. I never thought the UFC would let Conor McGregor take the fight against Mayweather in boxing, but that happened.
