Results: Dillian Whyte banishes Lucas Browne to The Upside Down

Boom. After six rounds of one sided action, Dillian Whyte finished Lucas Browne this afternoon on HBO with a devastating knockout of the year candidate. Lucas Browne may still be sleeping. He isn’t going to feel good when he wakes up either.

This was a equally a good performance for Dillian Whyte (23-1, 17 KOs) and a poor one from Lucas Browne (25-1, 22 KOs). The first two rounds were fought at a measured pace, but basically all the landing was done by Dillian Whyte. His Australian opponent offered next to nothing to deter him with his hands or any real defensive ability to avoid shots. He was bleeding by the end of the first round.

The pace picked up a little in the third and Browne was able to get his right hand going for the first time. Unfortunately for him and his entire lack of defense, this just meant that Whyte was hitting him even more though. Dillian still took the round with his best offense yet. The fourth round was even worse for Lucas Browne as his more athletic opponent re-established his jab and movement to negate those right hands while still landing his own offense. The fourth round was a rout.

The 38 year old Australian landed a real nice right hand in the opening minute of the fifth, but he paid for it time and time again by eating fluid combinations from his younger British foe. Dillian could land sharp right hands of his own, throw a quick three punch combination, or even hook to the body basically at will. Everything he threw was landing.

Thirty seconds into the sixth round, Dillian Whyte ended the fight. First he pushed Browne into the ropes looking swollen and defeated. Then came the huge left hook in mid combination that sent Lucas Browne down face first unconscious. This was a huge finish that will be in the discussion for knockout of the year at the end of 2018. It took Lucas Browne quite a while to come to in a scary scene too. Paramedics rushed to his side and used an oxygen mask on him even. After a few minutes, he was thankfully able to walk out on his own power though.

Post fight Dillian Whyte called out Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua. I’d rather see those two fight one another next, of course, provided Joshua can prevail against Joseph Parker. Dillian Whyte would be a good first defense for an undisputed heavyweight champion though for sure.
