Errol Spence Jr came home and wore a Dallas Cowboy star to the ring. After tonight, his own star only shines brighter. The Dallas native defended his title via first round stoppage.
Errol Spence Jr (24-0, 21 KOs) was a little slow going to open the first round. Carlos Ocampo (22-1, 13 KOs) was acquitting himself quite well for a couple minutes. He punches with the pound for pound elite talent and landed his shots. Errol wasn’t letting his hands go quite as much or delivering the one sided beating that was promised by the questionable matchmaking.
One shot changed that in a hurry though. Pressed against the ropes in the opening round’s final seconds, Carlos Ocampo received one heck of a straight left to the belly button. He collapsed to the canvas. After the first few seconds of the count it looked he was going to rise, but there must have been a second wave of pain as the Mexican title challenger collapsed back down and ten was reached. Errol Spence Jr had defended his title by first round knockout.
Post-fight Errol noted that he was a little disappointed with ending the fight so quickly at home. He said that he wanted to get the crowd their money’s worth. More interesting, he then spoke on unification. He expressed preference of meeting the winner of the vacant title fight between Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter in September.
