S8C Top 25 Update: Josh Taylor surges towards the top in an otherwise quiet week

Josh Taylor makes a dramatic move up in the junior welterweight S8C Top 25 rankings following his big win over Viktor Postol. Just how high did he climb? Read on to find out.

There is very little to report this week in terms of movement in the S8C top twenty five divisional rankings. The biggest and most exciting fight this weekend was definitely found in Scotland where favorite local son Josh Taylor passed a big step up in against former top junior welterweight Viktor Postol. In a highly competitive and exciting contest that felt like it was coming down to the wire, Taylor got an absurdly wide win on the cards. Thankfully I still thought he won the fight fair anyway. This shakes up the top of the junior welterweight rankings and what I basically did was switch the two fighters. Postol fell to #6 while Taylor climbed up to #2, the opposite sports of where they were. #2 is probably higher than where most have Taylor, but I am a believer for sure.

Another low key impressive performance came seven pounds north in the welterweight division way down in South Africa. Unbeaten local welterweight Thulani Mbenge took full advantage of his opportunity against known former contender Diego Chaves of Argentina. Mbenge destroyed him over seven and looked good in doing it. This brought him into the welterweight rankings at #19.

Otherwise, all that happened was the following fighters being in action and winning without impacting their standing: #1 junior lightweight Miguel Berchelt, #7 junior lightweight Miguel Roman, #10 middleweight Martin Murray, #20 cruiserweight Thabiso Mchunu, and #20 light heavyweight Anthony Yarde. At least Berchelt and Roman will likely face each other later this years thanks to their wins.
