Results: Chocolatito batters Moises Fuentes before detonating his chin in 5 to open GGG-Canelo 2

In the PPV opener, Chocolatito Gonzalez returned to the win column with a big knockout of Moises Fuentes

My legally purchaed, RingTV stream cut out in the first round. Great start. In the second, Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (47-2, 39 KOs) gave a semi-vintage performance. I thought he bothered Moises Fuentes (25-6-1, 14 KOs)) early with a body shot. He got away from that when Moises began bleeding from his right eye. Chocolatito began attack upstairs with a fury and great success. He was still getting hit more than he used to, but the offense was mostly there. The Mexican would be legend killer came out trying to reassert himself in the third, but after thirty seconds or of trading he decided against it. The Nicaraguan surefire Hall of Famer didn’t slowdown though. The third was a beating. At one point Moises sagged down into a squat like he was maybe quitting, but he popped back up and kept taking his beat down.

The fourth was similar to the third. Moises came out trying to assert himself, but instead he ended up getting bullied along the ropes for the majority of the round. The fifth round brought the end quite emphatically. Gonzalez had his Mexican opponent along the ropes like he had in the previous two rounds. There he found the absolute perfect right hand that snapped Moises neck in the opposition direction. Fuentes collapsed to the canvas complete dead weight and that was that. It was a really big, impressive finish largely out of no where. Moises Fuentes was not hurt prior to the the blow. It was a one shot finish.

With the win, Roman Gonzalez will certainly be back in title contention. He has said this week that he wants to move up and pursue that title shot at bantamweight though. I think everyone would agree that is a bad idea. Thankfully those belts are almost entirely held up in the upcoming World Boxing Super Series bantamweight tournament, so that should prove logistically difficult. Maybe the Nicaraguan legend will drop the idea before it becomes possible. He is already notably undersized at super flyweight.
