Whyte-Chisora II booked for Dec 22nd on DAZN

Dillian Whyte, Anthony Joshua, Boxing

Matchroom continues to pile up dates on the streaming service.

When Dillian Whyte (24-1, 17 KOs) and Dereck Chisora (29-8, 21 KOs) first met at the very end of 2016, the fight looked to be designed to be ready made launching pad for Dillian Whyte’s star in the United Kingdom. Almost a year to the day before their first matchup Whyte has announced himself by giving rising superstar Anthony Joshua a stiff test before spending most of 2016 easily separating himself from the standard British level heavyweight scene.

Chisora, however, was on the opposite trajectory. Kubrat Pulev had dominated him two fights earlier for the European belt while all of his wins in recent years were over regional level guys. All his prior step ups had resulted in losses as well. Yet, the Whyte-Chisora turned into an absolute barn burner against expectations. Dillian pretty clearly fought a dumb fight by engaging in the brawl that was Chisora’s only real hope, but no one was complaining except maybe his corner. It was great stuff. Whyte narrowly pulled away with a split decision win.

The rematch will take place on December 22nd at the venerable O2 Arena in London. As per usual with Matchroom Boxing cards, Sky Sports will have the show in the UK and DAZN will broadcast in America. The rematch couldn’t have come at a better time either with Whyte and Chisora coming off career best wins over Joseph Parker and Carlos Takam respectively. Their recent success and memorable first showdown will guarantee a lot of hype around this one and rightfully so.
