Jarrett Hurd stops Jason Melborn in four rounds

His performance was a bit odd though.

From a results based perspective, Jarrett Hurd’s (23-0, 16 KOs) fourth round stoppage of British journeyman Jason Melborn (24-7, 7 KOs) shows nothing weird. The fight itself was definitely a little odd to watch though. Hurd was clearly either trying to work on things he is normally not good at. Or maybe he was just trying to buy time for the show to get to its main event.

Either way, Hurd didn’t bring his normal come forward aggression in any way. The unified junior middleweight titleholder attempted to box off the back foot and slip shots along the ropes. He is not good at these things, however, so even a lesser fighter like Jason Melborn was able to do good work along the ropes. At least he was able to before Hurd clearly became frustrated. When that happened, Jarrett came forward aggressively for the firts time in the fight and immediately stopped his opponent to the solar plexes.

Post-fight Jermell Charlo came into the ring and started yelling about something. Hurd didn’t react much other than to confirm that he is looking for another tune up first before facing Jermell.
