Reportedly the side of the deal for the UFC and Connon McGregor is done. I guess I have to talk about this now.

If this fight actually gets made, I will write a full piece on my thoughts about it in detail. Now it looks like it probably will get made too.
The reason I have refrained from talking about it thus far is that my vision for S8C is one that sacrifices clicks for quality. There is a reason all boxing sites post non-news headlines like “X talks trash about Y”. A big part of the more casual boxing fanbase is fueled by that sort of thing. I want S8C to be a refugee camp for those fleeing from click bait. I want it to be a boxing internet home where you can come fully knowing you’re going to get news on bookings, fight previews, fight result thoughts, and deeper insight into the sport. Up to this point, the Mayweather/McGregor reporting has been absent of any actual fact, driven only to generate clicks.
That changed today, so here goes. The short version on my feelings towards this fight is that it is fine. View it as a way to say goodbye in the ring to the greatest fighter of our generation, not as a normal big fight. Though McGregor is a one in a million shot to actually even be competitive, both fighters are natural promoters. The build up will be fun and the event atmosphere will be unreal, even if the fight itself is a bit of a farce. It is a separate thing from the rest of the boxing world. Feel free to ignore if you want. I am going to choose to have fun with it should it go forward.
No word about a possible date or how close Floyd is to signing on. The only way I have a huge issue with this fight is if it tries to compete head to head with Golovkin and Canelo, but that would be a ridiculous decision.
