We might have an interesting super middleweight matchup in the near future. German media outlets are reporting that their star super middleweight Arthur Abraham may be taking on British contender Chris Eubank Jr. This would be a solid potential crossroads matchup.
Arthur Abraham (46-5, 30 KOs) had previously won a title eliminator last month against the overmatched Robin Krasniqi. This gives him the right to rematch his extremely noncompetitive loss to Gilberto Ramirez Jr, but apparently he is thinking better of taking a shutout loss again.
Chris Eubank Jr (24-1, 19 KOs) was in talks to fight Gennady Golovkin last year, but reportedly his crazy father negotiated him out of the opportunity. Eubank lost a narrow title shot against Billy Joe Saunders in 2014 as well. Since that date, however, he has returned to fighting largely British domestic level opposition. This would be a big step back up for him and only his second super middleweight bout to boot.
Stylistically this fight would seem to favor the youth, speed, and volume of Eubank. Abraham has tremendous power, but he throws so few punches and never when his opponent is throwing. If the 27 year old British fighter can remain active and weary of his defense, it is hard to see him losing a decision here. Even at 37, however, Abraham can still punch though which is what makes this fight potentially interesting.
