Miguel Cotto to fight again on December 2nd, Oscar calls Marquez fight “interesting”

According to the Puerto Rican legend himself, Miguel Cotto has his next two fight dates mapped out. He is of course fighting Yoshihiro Kamegai on August 26th and now he claims he will be fighting December 2nd as well. Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez remains the most likely opponent.

While Cotto’s new promoter Oscar De La Hoya noted that “there are great fights for Cotto,” he only mentioned Juan Manuel Marquez by name. By a December 2nd fight date Marquez would be 44 and three years out of the ring, but he did still look great in his 2014 outing versus Mike Alvarado.

With a Canelo Alvarez rematch presumably off the table due to his highly anticipated September fight with Gennady Golovkin, the only potentially interesting fight for Miguel on their roster would be David Lemieux. I don’t think Cotto wants to fight someone that big though. He has always stressed that he is not a middleweight. Otherwise there is only Sadam Ali and a bunch of prospects in the appropriate weight range.

Someone outside of the Golden Boy stable will likely have to be Miguel Cotto’s December opponent. All signs still point to Marquez.
