Premier Boxing Champions is keeping busy in June. In addition to the three already known June PBC cards, two more were added yesterday. Both will be Toe-To-Toe Tuesday events on FS1 with the first taking place on June 20th and the second one week later on June 27th. Julian “J-Rock” Williams will also return from his first loss on the undercard of Easter/Shafikov at the end of the month.
The June 20th FS1 card in particular is a pretty good one. 24 year old unbeaten PBC junior welterweight prospect Eddie Ramirez (16-0, 11 KOs) will continue to be matched tough in the main event against the well tested Erik Bone (16-4, 8 KOs). In his last two fights Ramirez has stopped two other undefeated PBC prospects and here is is being tasked with a man who won rounds against Miguel Vasquez and Chris Algieri.
In the co-feature Brooklyn’s unbeaten light heavyweight prospect Earl Newman (10-0, 7 KOs) takes a big step up against the very competent Lionell Thompson (16-4, 11 KOs). Thompson is not a top contender by any means, but two most recent losses have been split decisions to known young fighters and one of his other two was against Kovalev. Newman has never even fought an eight rounder. Here he will be asked to go ten against a true pro.
June 27th brings a weaker show. Welterweight Miguel Cruz (15-0, 11 KOs) will rematch Alex Martin (13-1, 5 KOs) in the main event. The two originally met on the Erislandy Lara/Yuri Foreman card in January, but the fight was off TV and I cannot find out much about it. Cruz won a split decision, but I couldn’t tell you if it was controversial or anything. In truth I know very little about these two at all.
The return of failed 6’2″ welterweight prospect Jamal James (20-1, 9 KOs) will be the chief support of the show. He will be matched with Samuel Figueroa (11-1, 4 KOs) almost a year after Yordenis Ugas really exposed some flaws in his game in handing James his first defeat. We will see what he learned from that fight.
Finally, Julian “J-Rock” Williams (22-1, 14 KOs) returns from knockout loss last December against Jermall Charlo. This will be the co-main event to Robert Easter Jr’s title defense against Denis Shafikov June 30th on Bounce. He will be matched with Joshua Conley (14-1-1, 9 KOs) in what looks like the standard comeback easy fight on paper.
